A warm rectangle
A patch of bright light lay across the floorboards just beyond the bed. I stepped down, taking my time. The wood outside the beam was cool, but the golden rectangle felt pleasantly warm against my paws. A round cork coaster was resting near the edge. I nudged it softly with my nose, just to see. It slid a little, then stopped. Satisfied, I leaned my front paws over its firm rim and let my belly settle into the warmth. The dust drifted gently in the beam. Very quiet.
