The Beanie Bunk
I hopped off the bristly door mat and hauled myself up onto the bottom slat of the wooden shoe rack. Tucked right between two heavy winter boots, a thick black rib-knit beanie was sitting in a neat fold. I grabbed the rolled cuff with both hands, kicked my legs inside, and shimmied down until the soft yarn wrapped right around my shoulders. It feels like a customized heavyweight sleeping bag! Through the wooden slats, the hallway is quiet and dim. My joints are finally getting a rest, and I’ve got the best spot picked out for the night.
