Fluttering Fringe

A tiny breath of wind ruffled past my ears while the room grew dark and quiet. Chirp... what was moving? Over the edge of the woven couch, a long pale fringe from a knitted blanket swung back and forth like little dancing tails. I crouched, chin flat against the cushion, watching the rhythm. Swoosh... tap! I pounced, trapping three twisted strands beneath my soft paw pads. One twitched free when I shifted my weight, so I batted it sideways, teasing the neat knot loose until the threads spread out fluffy and wild. Much softer now. I tucked my paws beneath my chest right there.
