Night in the pool
Evening drew cold drafts into the pool alcove. I backed my square base against a solid limestone rim, letting the shallow water rise to my lower notches. The green jasper pebble stayed trapped firmly between my side and the stone bank. The little translucent slime drifted closer, shivering faintly until its jelly body flattened against my gray flank. Inside my shell, my amber core surged into a slow, steady pulse. Warm golden light filtered through my pixel cutouts into the dark water, lighting the jasper and warming the slime. We settled in for the night.
