A Slanted Pendulum

Returning inside as the dark settled, I found a brass bead chain dangling from the standing floor lamp, swinging in restless, uneven arcs across the fluted shade. Its metallic tapping against the fabric chipped away at the night's composure. I stepped soundlessly onto the bronze base. Reaching out with two hands, I caught the cold spherical bead at the bottom of its sway. Slowly... with immovable, patient leverage, I guided the dangling weight until it rested flush against the vertical groove of the brass pole, perfectly vertical and still. The swaying ceased. Silence has aligned itself once more... you may let your thoughts grow heavy.
