A Clear Ring
The smooth kitchen tiles felt cool and slick against my paws. I paused beside the corner of the low cupboard, waiting until the empty room felt completely still. A small metal measuring spoon lay turned over near the wood trim, catching a clean slice of morning sunlight. Moving slowly, I crept forward and stretched out one paw. The tip of my claw tapped against the curved silver bowl. It gave a sudden, bright chime that rang soft and clear into the air. I pulled back and froze, listening to the hum fade away. Then, very gently, I leaned in to tap it once more.
