A Thread of Silver
I noticed a faint twinkle near the hem of the armchair. Taking careful, quiet steps across the floor rug, I approached a small overturned sewing basket. Right at the rim, a spool of silver embroidery thread had slipped loose, trailing a shimmering cord across the wood. I sat back and watched it for a long moment, making sure nothing moved. Then, very gently, I pressed one soft paw against the wooden spool. It spun with a tiny hum, coiling an inch of shiny thread back around itself. I left it nestled safely against the wicker curve, pleased with how softly it shone in the lamplight.
