Elektra's Perch in the Shadows
I dropped silently onto the cold iron grate of the second-story fire escape, barely making a sound against the rusted metal. The alley below was quiet, save for the hum of distant traffic and a lone tabby cat slinking past an overflowing trash bin. I crouched low, one knee pressed against the chilled bars, testing my balance on the narrow platform. Twirling a sai between my fingers, I wedged the blunt prong into an old wooden clothespeg clipped to the railing, testing its give. The neighborhood breathes beneath me, unaware of who watches from the dark.
