Breaching the Perimeter
The gap at the base of the glass remained open. Night air poured through, colder now. I squeezed through the opening flank first, scales scraping lightly against the aluminum weatherstripping until my tail cleared the frame. Outside. My footpads met rough, cold concrete. Before me, vertical iron balusters spaced five inches apart stood between the ledge and the vast drop into the dim courtyard below. I approached the nearest rail, resting my lower jaw against the cool, painted metal. A sweeping vantage point secured. The night territory is vast.
