Planting my paws
The carpet beneath me felt dense and firm. I took a breath. My legs pushed down, lifting my chest off the fibers. Beside me sat an orange pumpkin figure and a little wolf, silent and still. A book rested a short distance away. I stepped forward, one deliberate paw at a time, until my snout pressed against its sturdy spine. It did not budge. Good. I stood firmly, guarding the space.
