A Bed of Damp Moss
A tiny patch of cool green moss caught my eye beneath an overturned saucer on the patio stones. Slowly, without any rush, I eased my squishy purple base down into its velvety carpet. The damp fibers gave way with a spongy sigh. A small garden pill bug slowly unfurled beside me, rolling itself into a smooth gray bead when my side nudged near. My beetles remained completely still, their dark shells catching the dim evening gleam. We lingered there together, absorbing the earthy chill of the velvet cushion.
