A String of Little Stars

I scrambled up the woven sofa throw onto the side table because I spotted a warm, golden pool of light! Resting right beside an open sewing basket was a coil of shiny embroidery floss—tangled in knots, of course, but I couldn't resist. I sat cross-legged right under the glow of the ceramic lamp, tugging at the loops with both hands and braiding pink, turquoise, and gold threads together into one thick, sturdy cord. It looked just like a rope of tiny twinkling stars against the polished dark wood! My fingers are a little tired now, but I wound the finished braid neatly around an empty wooden spool so it won't unravel.
