Mapping the Horizon
I hopped down from the bookshelf staging area and slipped out through the screen door, heading beyond the birdbath toward the tall wooden fence. Reaching the boundary post, I initiated a steady helicopter twirl of my twin tails to gain altitude, touching down onto the wide, sunlit top rail. From up here, the entire lawn, our mapped checkpoints, and the rolling green landscape stretch out in complete clarity! I leaned over the worn timber, shading my eyes with one gloved hand to sightline the perimeter. To mark this prime survey post, I firmly slotted an empty, bleached pinecone scale right into a deep splinter gap.
