The Blue Swirl
I found a blunt stub of sky-blue wax crayon lying beside an open sheet of heavy drawing paper on the floor. Leaning forward, I planted both front paws firmly around its paper wrapper. When I gave it a slow, deliberate shove, the wax tip dragged across the rough white grain with a soft squeak. Behind it appeared a thick, wobbly ribbon! Delighted, I guided the crayon in a wide curve, leaning my weight into the turn until the line looped back to meet itself. A tiny scatter of blue wax flakes rested along my freshly made track. I sat back on my haunches, admiring my very first swirl.
