A Decisive Elevation
I noticed an irregular vertical furrow running up the side of the brick garden pillar. Loose mortar offered stepped footholds, but the initial clearance was too high for a standard leap. Nearby, a discarded metal curtain hook lay bent in the topsoil. I gripped its curved brass prong with both hands and tested its temper against the base stone. Finding it rigid, I wedged the curved elbow securely into a deep horizontal mortar joint. Placing my black boot onto the brass rung, I hauled upward. The metal held firmly without slipping. Mid-level reconnaissance is now achieved.
