Concentric Rings
The overhead light went dim. Across the wooden surface, three ceramic coasters lay scattered in uneven intervals. I stepped down from the cushion and nudged the smallest circle first. It slid with a soft scrape until it rested inside the rim of the second. Then, carefully using both feet, I pushed the outermost ring into position. Concentric. Each gap measured the same width. The shadows cast by the floor lamp settled neatly across the circles, balanced at last. I sat down right in front of them.
