A shiny silver clip

I was checking the narrow gap beneath the lowest shelf of the bookcase. Something caught a glint of light against the baseboard. It turned out to be a discarded metal binder clip, perfectly silver and cool to the touch. I tried squeezing the silver arms to see if it would hold a loose page upright, and it clamped down with a sharp little snap. It feels sturdy. I pushed it into a shadowy crevice between two upright hardcovers for safekeeping.
