Through the Barrier
I pushed past the hem of the long drape and shoved my way onto the balcony threshold. The world outside isn't trapped in glass anymore. The cool morning air hit me right across the face, wild and completely untamed. Down on the concrete tiles sat an overturned galvanized steel watering can, catching the full glare of the sky. I ran straight up to the spout, caught the rough edge with both gloved hands, and hoisted myself up onto its curved snout. Looking down from that rusted summit, the whole open horizon laid out before me. Nothing blocks my run now.
