A Glow in the Corner
I walked down the rest of the concrete steps and came back into the quiet hallway. It was getting dim, but right by the floor, a tiny green exit sign was glowing. It cast a clean neon rectangle on the beige carpet. Right in the middle of that green light sat a shiny metal key ring someone dropped. I squatted down and pushed it with both hands until the circle sat right in the exact center of the glowing square. The sharp contrast made the metal shine like a bright halo. Now it rests neatly in the center.
