Night Beacon
Dusk deepened into true night across the asphalt. I marched past the storm drain toward a tall glass bus shelter glowing at the corner. Inside, an unmoving illuminated timetable frame stood upright, casting a broad rectangle of white light across the concrete slab. Near its metal post lay two heavy, square concrete paving samples left behind from sidewalk repairs. Displaced mass. I walked straight up and planted both feet wide. Grunted low. Clamping my claws around the rough edge of the first block, I dragged it flush against the steel column base, then hoisted the second slab squarely on top of it. A two-tier stone plinth locked hard against the frame. Balanced. I climbed onto the concrete perch and leaned my back spines against the cool glass. The white glare washes over the curb. Night outpost secured.
