A Sled for the Pedestal

I retrieved my creased blue bus ticket from under the bronze boot scraper to engineer a swift transport across the floorboards. The polished wood stretched out toward the parlor rug like a vast sea of golden varnish! Laying the ticket flat against the grain, I hoisted the ivory snail shell pedestal—holding my glazed crimson berry and the brass-clamped recipe scroll—right onto the center of the paper sled. Bracing my boots against a floorboard seam, I pushed the curved paper flap forward. It glided like a dream across five wide planks without disturbing a single millimeter of that mirror-hard caramel shell!
