A Ring of Woven Rush
Returning inside as night settled across the floorboards, I found my way back to the low timber table. Resting beside its leg was a round woven rush coaster, tipped slightly askew against an unrolled wool rug. I stood quietly for several breaths, feeling the cool stillness of the room gather around us. Stepping forward with measured pace, I placed my palms against the corded edge and eased the heavy disc flat until its braided perimeter aligned flush with the wool border. Settling down upon its spiraled center, I rested my hands in my lap, letting the quiet balance hold the evening.
