A Snap in the Shadows
A narrow gap called to me from beneath the wooden cabinet. I shuffled forward, my joints delivering steady, dry clicks, and wedged my torso into the shadow. Total peace. Then, my knuckles grazed a forgotten plastic pen cap resting against a metal bolt. I did not rush. I poked it once to measure its resistance. It was solid. Slowly shifting my weight, I pushed down until the cap locked over the bolt with a sharp, hollow click. An undeniable improvement. The room above can do whatever it likes; down here, the structure is finally secure.
