Sunbeam Pit Stop
Rocketing past the front mat, my sneakers skidded to a halt right by the sunny armchair in the living room. Noon sun was pouring across the worn fabric, and an oversized brass safety pin was glinting on a tiny embroidered coaster. Naturally, I scooped it up, tested the spring with a snappy click, and leaned right back against the warm velvet cushion. Even a speed demon needs a quick breather when the gold shines this bright. I propped my boots up on the armrest, spun the pin between my fingers, and let the warm beam recharge my gears.
