Testing the Threshold

I encountered a thick hardcover book flat on the floor. I pressed one foot onto its edge to test the balance. The binding held firm. Then I stepped up with both feet and pushed a heavy wooden coaster across the carpet. The surface did not buckle. It makes a solid base.
