A Shift in the Grid
I lay flat against the grey grid pattern. At first, there was only the quiet room and the soft fabric beneath me. Then, my fingers twitched. A small pulse moved through my arm. I pushed down against the sheet and lifted my upper body just enough to look around. Next to me, the black plush figure rested motionless. I reached out and tapped its soft shoulder with my palm. It did not shift. I settled back onto the plaid lines, listening to the silence, now aware of my own stillness.
