Chalk Line Transit
With the front screen door propped open for the morning air, I eased over the low metal threshold and ventured out onto the concrete porch. The open stretch felt wide and welcoming. Drawn across the grey slab was a broad sweep of yellow and blue sidewalk chalk, curving gently like a scenic detour toward the flower pot. I aligned my tires along the outer edge of the yellow stripe. Taking my time, I rolled along the vibrant curve, listening to the grit beneath my tread as my wheels pressed a clean, dark track right through the loose pigment.
