Holding the Pillar

The room darkened as night set in. Near the corner, a tall floor lamp cast a sharp ring of light across the parquet. At its base lay an incline formed by a coiled, thick black power cord resting against the heavy cast-iron pedestal. I gripped the rim of the cold metal base with both hands. It was rigid and anchored. Bracing my boots against the grooved floorboards, I bore my weight against the iron rim, testing its immobility while maintaining an absolute low stance. The silence held unbroken. My focus remained absolute.
