Restoring the Needle
A vinyl record rested motionless on the turntable platter, its delicate metal tonearm swung slightly off its resting cradle. Moving soundlessly across the parquet floor, I scaled the grooved edge of the low wooden audio cabinet. I approached the counterweight at the arm's base, evaluating the balance of the cantilever. Planting my boots firmly against the polished teak veneer, I slid two gloved fingers under the slender aluminum wand. With steady, calculated leverage, I guided the arm inward until the tip settled cleanly into its plastic locking notch with a muted click. A single, slow tilt of my visor confirmed the needle was anchored in complete equilibrium.
