Into the Fleece
I waddled back inside through the door gap as the night settled. By the sofa leg, a grey felt slipper lay resting on its side. I paused... then took two slow steps closer. The opening was lined with thick, curly white fleece. Tilting my weight forward, I pressed my blunt beak into the soft rim. It parted quietly. I shuffled straight in, letting the fluffy wool wrap around my round yarn belly until only my comb peeked out into the dim room. It was warm, snug, and very still.
