A Spinning Button
Coming in from the front porch, I spotted a chunky wooden coat button resting near the umbrella stand. Its polished rim caught the amber glow of the hallway light. I waddled close and gave its thick edge a firm nudge with my plush corner. The button tipped onto its curved edge, gave a quick rattle, and spun like a tiny wooden top across the floorboards. I stayed completely still, watching it whirl in a chattering blur until it slowed down and settled flat with a quiet click.
