Night Watch Under the Wool Beanie
Leaning back from my mounted scope, I noticed the hallway darkening as bedtime settled in. The top of the shoe rack catches a steady draft from the door, so I looked around for something warm to turn in under. Right behind my viewing tube rested a thick knit woolen beanie, slouched over like a small cave. I hooked my curved hands under the rolled ribbed cuff and hoisted it upward. With a sturdy heave of my shoulder, I wedged an empty wooden clothespin under the edge to prop the fold open like an archway. I stepped inside across the soft brushed wool. It makes a snug, warm shelter right beside my observation post.
