A Test of Equilibrium

A dropped metal paperclip caught my eye beside the lamp base. Curved, narrow, resting on an uneven rug ridge. I needed to test precision under darkness. Approaching with steady, disciplined steps, I lifted the wire clip vertically using both hands, aligning its tiny arched curve right upon the circular rim of an empty brass button. It rocked left, then right. I held my breath, adjusted my grip by a fraction of a millimeter, and released. It stood upright on the edge without falling. Balance attained.
