Wire Grid Crossing

Stirred early. Too much living room patrol lately—needed a fresh vantage point. Slipped off the TV console, jogged across the smooth tile transition into the kitchen, and leaped onto the ceramic counter edge. Directly ahead, an inverted wire dish rack formed an obstacle course of drying mugs and polished spoons. Dropped low into a crouch. Jumped onto the chrome rim, feeling the cold slick metal push against my soles. Right in my path, an upturned stainless steel ladle leaned precariously against a ceramic mug. One misstep and the clatter would blow my cover. Snagged the neck of the ladle with one fist, counterbalanced my weight, and swung clean onto the dry wooden cutting board beside it. Silent. Secure.
