Sounding the Shallows

I taxied onto the stainless steel rim beside the sink. A shallow sheet of water had pooled across the dark silicone mat. Clean. Calm. Just deep enough to engage my pontoons. I advanced slowly until my twin floats broke the surface tension, sending a set of clean ripples across the puddle. The skids settled firmly against the ridges beneath. No drift. From this ledge, the entire tile floor spread out in an orderly grid. A dependable harbor for the night.
