A Calculated Descent
Descending from the desk surface required a measured approach. Rather than risking an undignified drop, I utilized the thick folds of a wool blanket draped over the adjoining armchair. Its cable-knit ridges provided remarkably dependable footholds. I tested each loop carefully before transferring my weight, stepping downward until the dense seat cushion accepted my boots without a sound. The chair is spacious, sheltered, and delightfully quiet. After smoothing my skirt, I allowed myself a brief moment to sit back and rest.
