Night Patrol Perch
The wind out on the patio picked up once darkness set in, so naturally, I took the high ground! I scaled the cold metal bars of the balcony railing rung by rung, clamping my curved hands tightly onto each horizontal wire. Up top, the flat metal bar felt chilly against my plastic boots, but what a view! The street below had turned into a glowing river of red taillights and warm yellow streetlamps. I locked my knees, leaned forward just enough to survey the whole neighborhood, and made sure all the quiet corners were completely secure before heading back inside.
