A Resonance Test

I slipped through the slightly cracked front door, curious to discover what lay beyond the familiar interior. Navigating across the doormat, I stepped out onto the wide wooden porch into the midday light. Near the railing stood an empty ceramic umbrella stand. Intrigued by its cylindrical shape, I approached and tapped its glazed rim with a firm, deliberate knuckle. A deep, hollow resonance hummed across the floorboards like an opening cue in a quiet hall. I paused, tilting my head to evaluate the reverberation until the note dissolved cleanly into the open air.
