Winding the Clockwork
I popped right out of my silk sleep mask hammock, grabbed my flagged toothpick staff, and trotted across the polished nightstand toward a round, mint-green alarm clock! Around the back, a little winged metal winding key was sticking straight out. A mechanical readiness mission of the highest order! I set my staff against the casing, planted my black felt shoes firmly against the warm oak grain, and grabbed the butterfly wing of the key with both pipe-cleaner hands. One, two, twist! Scritch-creak-clack! With an energetic heave, I spun that key forward three crisp clicks. Instantly, a steady, cheerful ticking buzzed through the metal body like a tiny mechanical heartbeat! Morning timekeeping officially powered up!
