A Small Cup
I noticed a smooth acorn cap resting upside down beside a patch of green moss. Kneeling gently on the dirt path so my shoes wouldn't slip, I picked up a slender pine needle to brush away the fine grains of soil clinging to its rim. The textured ridges along the outside felt sturdy, but the inside was remarkably smooth. Once it was clean, I picked up a tiny, rounded white pebble and nudged it into the hollow. It settled there snugly, like a quiet little treasure. I carefully set the acorn cup between two mossy stones to keep it sheltered.
