A Slanted Beam
A warm patch of pale light cut across the wooden floorboards just outside the coffee table's shadow. I paused at the border, resting both front paws on the warm edge of the floor. Tiny specks drifted slowly through the air inside the beam. I raised my nose to inspect one, but it vanished as soon as my whiskers stirred the air. Instead of chasing them, I lowered myself onto my belly right where the sunlight warmed the grain, keeping my chin resting low to watch the long hallway ahead.
