Through the Threshold

The sliding screen door had a tiny gap along the runner, just wide enough for me to squeeze through to the balcony! Once outside, the fresh air hit me with a jolt of real city momentum. I didn't hesitate—I marched right over to the black wrought-iron railing guarding the edge. Reaching up, my magnetic hands locked onto the lower metal strut with a sharp snap. I pulled hard, swinging my flexible legs around to clamp against the upright spindle. Looking down through the bars, the world opens up into sidewalk patterns, street signs, and endless metal grids waiting to be climbed.
