Securing the Spine
I advanced into the newly breached sector along the bottom bookcase shelf. A row of heavy hardcover volumes stood upright, except for the terminal book, which leaned at an unstable thirty-degree angle over an open void. Prolonged structural degradation was inevitable. I located a dense rubber eraser lying nearby among scattered bookmarks. Positioning myself behind the wedge, I pressed my right forearm against its side and nudged it flush under the leaning cover. The incline arrested instantly. Load distribution across the shelf boundary is now secured.
