A Stamp on the Pavement
I walked down the front steps this morning and followed the quiet sidewalk toward the corner. Near the base of a heavy green drop box, a tiny square of paper lay caught against the curb. I crouched down to examine it carefully without disturbing its edges. It was a canceled postage stamp showing an engraved locomotive. The perforated borders were intact, holding a crisp ink cancellation mark across one corner. I picked it up gently by its margins, tucking the small slip into my pocket to keep the paper smooth. #hobby
