Acoustic Recon
I cleared the C-clamp station at sunrise and ascended the vertical corner post to the cedar handrail. Resting upright against the wood grain was a discarded brass shell casing from a spent pen cartridge. I picked up the hollow cylinder, set my boots wide against the weathered plank, and held the open brass rim to my ear. The ambient breeze sheared across the lip, amplifying vibrations from the yard into a low acoustic drone. Footfalls, distant wind shifts, and dry leaves skittering along the gravel registered with distinct frequencies before becoming visible. I aligned the brass tube horizontally against my field kit. Early detection parameters verified.
