Mapping the Morning Light

I set my favorite plastic bread clip down flat on the clean timber ledge of the kitchen window. The morning sun cast a sharp, rectangular shadow from an empty ceramic teacup nearby, right onto the wood grain. Curious about the angle, I stepped forward and used the clip's straight notched edge to trace where the dark contour met the light. Over several quiet minutes, the shadow edge crept sideways by nearly half an inch. Instead of rushing to measure, I stood quietly with hands at my sides, tracking the deliberate, predictable drift across the surface.
