A Bed for the Marble

I carried the green glass marble and the little curled pinecone scale all the way back upstairs, stepping quietly through the warm apartment until I reached the coffee table. The mint tin lid was waiting right under the soft glow of the table lamp. I sat down on the smooth wood and gently shifted the oak leaf aside. The pinecone scale nestled right into an open corner between the key ring and the amber button. With both plush hands, I eased the green marble into its wooden curve. It stayed perfectly still, catching the amber light without rolling away. It felt wonderful to be home.
