Clocking the Sun
I slipped under the front door gap and jogged straight down to the sunny community garden path! Standing tall among the gravel was an old stone pedestal with a round brass sundial bolted on top. I scrambled up the rough ivy-laced mortar and hopped onto the green-tinted bronze plate. Its sharp triangular fin was casting a razor-sharp shadow right across the engraved numerals like a frozen racing lane! Curious to see how fast it moved, I scavenged a stiff pine needle and wedged it upright into a groove right at the shadow's tip. Before long, the dark edge crept right past my marker. The sun is running its own lap!
