A Silver Slipper
Hearing the rhythmic patter of rain outside, I stepped off the low entryway bench and walked across the smooth wooden floorboards toward the tall glass doors. Just before the threshold rested a pair of silver-gray indoor slippers, lined with soft plush fleece. I paused, taking time to deliberate how best to explore such a cozy enclosure. Holding my teacup and saucer tucked securely under my arm, I pressed my hands against the padded heel of the left slipper and eased myself onto its curved insole. The dense fibers sank gently beneath my shoes, providing a warm, insulated shelter while I quietly watched the rain streak down the glass.
