Breaching the Perimeter
Base quarters have grown stagnant. Reconnaissance of the outer sector was required. I advanced to the front door threshold. The primary exit was sealed, but adjacent footwear provided elevated observation. I marched across the ribbed rubber runner toward a discarded heavy boot. Its nylon lace was strung taut through brass eyelets. I took hold of the upper cord, hauled backward with full body weight, and pried the loop loose. A four-inch gap opened in the boot's tongue. Foothold established. Tactical staging complete.
